Corvallis is a wonderful
place to live and visit. The city's logo contains the phrase
'Enhancing Community Livability'; citizens and government
take this seriously. Because of these efforts, our Willamette
Valley town was rated the second most livable small town
in the nation. Oregon
State University provides the community with great cultural
and athletic events. Nearby are golf courses, wildlife preserves,
hiking and biking trails.
Dining is comfortable and varied. We
have menus to assist you in making a selection, and we would
be glad to give you our opinions and help with directions.
For shopping, try our wonderful downtown - you can walk there
from Harrison House. For a list of local events, festivals,
sports activities and dining guides, go to Corvallis
Tourism.
A short drive will take you to beautiful
Alsea Falls or Marys Peak, the highest point on the Coast
Range. We have an extensive library of walking, hiking and
biking books. Further afield, you can use Kevin
Marshall's Guide Service to fish for salmon, trout or steelhead. If you want rafting
or kayaking, check out White
Water Warehouse for Rogue River
and other river trips.
We are an hour drive away from Newport
on the beautiful Oregon coast. Perfect for a day trip to
walk on the beach or visit the Newport Aquarium.
For ski enthusiasts, Mt.
Hood Meadows, Mount
Bachelor and
Hoodoo Ski Area are within
a two-three hour drive. |
Oregon wine country and
its wonderful wineries are within minutes of Corvallis.
For Pinot
Noir start with our six local vineyards: Airlie, Belle
Vallee,
Cardwell Hill Cellars, Eola
Hills, Springhill and Tyee.
If you start in Corvallis, Belle Vallee is an urban winery
and an easy walk from the Inn. Visit Tyee Wine Cellars just
south of town. You can walk the Beaver Pond Loop trail, have
a picnic under the apple tree and taste their great wines.
Cardwell Hill is west of Corvallis and is a new winery. Airlie
Winery and Mary Olson are northwest of Corvallis. Mary produces
wonderful whites and reds. Mike and Karen McClain at Springhill
Cellars make great Pinot Noir. Eola Hills serves a wonderful
Sunday Brunch.
If you go south of town, try King Estates,
Silvan Ridge/Hinman, and Secret House. The Riesling from
Secret House is also great. King Estates has a very impressive
facility. Try the Pinot Noir. You can visit these vineyards
in an afternoon - we suggest taking a lunch and having a
picnic at one of the wineries. The Territorial Road, the
road to these vineyards, is a wonderful drive.
To the north, you can travel up 99W from
Corvallis and visit the Eola or Dundee Hills. We enjoy Chateau
Benoit, beautiful vistas and wines, with a picnic area, Amity
Vineyards, Elk Cove Vineyards, Rex Hill,
Erath, a grand view of Mount Hood and Domaine Drouhin, a
great name in the business.
An indispensable resource is the Winery Guide.
